Synopsis
Arthur: Arthur (Laurence Harvey) is an amiable chap who runs a New Zealand poultry farm and basks in his bachelor lifestyle. Then a former flame (Hazel Court) re-enters his life, her scheming heart set on making him her partner for life…or at least until a richer man comes along. Arthur's solution to his dilemma is, of course, murder. Murder most fowl.
The Crystal Trench: In this chilly turn-of-the-century tale of obsessive love, an English mountain climber dies of exhaustion atop a peak, and his body becomes frozen in a glacier. His young wife clings to his memory and lives for the day that his deep-frozen corpse will emerge from the ice at the foot of the glacier. Forty years pass before the dawning of that day—and an ice-cold climatic twist.
The Horseplayer: Claude Rains is the pastor of a church whose treasury is in worse shape than its leaky roof. A generous parishioner (Ed Gardner) reveals that he has been praying for for winners at the local racetrack—and getting miraculous results. The pastor can't condone gambling, but the temptation to place a bet is great. The Lord DOES provide…but He doesn't pay 15 to 1!
Mrs. Bixby and The Colonel's Coat: Mrs. Bixby (Audrey Meadows), the neglected wife of a Manhattan dentist (Les Tremayne), is having secret once-a-month romantic get-togethers with a wealthy Baltimore gentleman, The Colonel (Stephen Chase). But The Colonel has unexpectedly decided to end the affair, and buys her a procey mink coat as a parting gift. Meadows' dilemma: How to bring it home without making hubby suspicious.
Bang! You're Dead: Six-year old Jackie Chester (Billy Mumy) likes to play cowboy, complete with holster and gun. But today the gun is real—filched by the unsuspecting lad from an uncle's suitcase. One by one, he fills the chambers with bullets as he cavorts through the bustling residential neighborhood. HIs family must find him before tragedy strikes.
